"When a person says” I don’t look good in hats”, I get out my measuring tape!
Most likely they have not tried on a hat that suits them and there is nothing like a hat that feels comfortable and expresses who you are. A hat can feel cozy and warm or block your face from the sun. Hats serve a purpose while declaring your very own style.
Growing up around horses, my family always had hats. Some of my Dad’s cowboy hats would catch my eye but they were a bit too big. I figured out how to size them for my head by folding pieces of paper towels and slipping them under the inside sweat band. And so began my fascination with hats.
I started making hats with my husband in our tiny San Francisco apartment. When we moved to Sonoma County, I found my studio space at Maxwell Court in Santa Rosa and here is where I work on commissions, teach classes and refurbish vintage hats. For my customers each hat is a unique piece of hand crafted art using quality textiles old and new.
My hats are all hand made using traditional millinery techniques and hand sewn. Many of my hats are vintage hats that I disassemble and redesign. Each hat teaches me about the techniques used by others before me. Using a beautiful piece that has a new life is an added pleasure as I take pride in using textiles that are still lovely to the eyes and to the touch.
Whether you want a classic cowboy hat in beautiful earth tones or a hot pink chrysanthemum blossoming from your head, we design it together and make it your style.
If you have your Great Aunt or Great Uncle’s hat that does not fit but you’d love to make it your own, bring it in and let’s redesign it and make it something you can wear while still having a piece of their history."

Bring your own hat (wool or felt) or purchase one before class. Turn this old hat into a custom made beautiful hat for your own. We will learn techniques in taking the hat apart, washing, blocking, adorning and making it your very own.
