Beyond the Masks Workshops: $275
There has always been a fascination throughout the centuries in many cultures with the wearing of masks for communication, ritual, drama and
masquerading. We also find it curiously exciting to paint our faces creating illusions something other that what we see in the mirror! My work explores
that "something other" that hides behind the many masks that we wear in our daily lives?
Join me in that discovery as I guide you in a creative process
using your own image as the canvas in clay.
You will be creating a full size life mask of your facial image which will be
cast from the plaster mold taken earlier. A second smaller mask will also be
prepared for a special Raku firing on Sunday. You can carve, sgraffito, decorate, distort, enhance, take away or do just about anything you want with your image, telling whatever stories you want to tell. . .or not! You need not have clay experience, just a willingness for adventure! In fact, most participants have never put their hands in clay before the workshop. I'll be guiding you all the way. That's exciting!
A detailed agenda will be mailed to you after registering and we will discuss via phone or email your creative plans. At that time, we will make an appointment prior to the workshop to create the plaster mold of your image. Expect to be pampered with healthy, organic foods, serene forest surroundings on 6 acres, an apple orchard which will be producing lots of organic apples to enjoy, a full working clay studio and a group of creative minds and hearts!
